Very proud of my students Eileen, Liam & Lucy, whom I co-supervised with Paul Fitters Teagasc Hort College who won 1st prize for their poster presentation on their FYP research on commercial 'Wildflower' seed composition & quality.

Sea Pea (Lathyrus japonicus) is rare in Ireland, considered 'Vulnerable' to extinction & protected under the Flora Protection Order. A population from West Cork is safely banked in the National Seed Bank at DBNherbarium NBG Ireland & germinating nicely for me this wk!

Who knew seed banks were so much drama - a wild ride from the Siege of Leningrad to Ancient Mesopotamia, the Siberian permafrost & Svalbard Archipelago, we even met Seamus Heaney & defeated Nazis along the way, bfor landing at a -20C freezer in Glasnevin & decanting it's contents

When the non-native range of an invasive plant & insect converged in Ireland, we observed (for the 1st time) the Myriophyllum genus being used as a host by the invasive pest E. postvittana.
