Sun orchids (Thelymitra sp.) at the back of my house at Corunna, NSW finished up flowering in early Nov, almost a month to the day after the first early flowers appeared. A lot of variations in this patch of 150+ plants -maybe T.peniculata and/or T. pauciflora #orchids #ozplants

Cymbidium sauve (Grass-leaf Cymbidium / snake orchid) at Corunna, NSW. Common here in state forest - often growing on tree stumps left from logging. Only one of the 3 x NSW Cymbidiums that is found in the southern half of the state (to Eden) #orchids #spring #inthefield #ozplants

Rosy hyacinth orchid (Dipodium roseum) at Corunna, NSW. Dipodium are usually the most visible summer orchids around Corunna with 3 x species growing locally - often in large no.s. But only the one single plant out so far at home this yr after a very dry spring #orchids #ozplants

Purple donkey orchid (Diuris punctata) still flowering mid-Nov on the edge of Croajingolong NP, VIC. Lightly blotched forms are possibly hybrids with D. meridionalis ms (blotched donkey orchid) but still no sign of this rare sp. at this location #ozplants #orchids #inthefield

Another interesting small sun orchid (Thelymitra) near Gipsy Point, VIC. If not a late season deformity then could be the smallest spotted sun orchid form I've seen. Only one flower out -maybe a hybrid with T. pauciflora or similar which grow nearby #orchids #ozplants #inthefield

Purple hyacinth orchid (Dipodium punctatum) at Corunna, NSW. This is usually the least common of the 3 x local Dipodium species found at my place though it can sometimes be seen flowering well into January. Very few out so far this year after a very dry spring #orchids #ozplants

Some really nice variations in both colour & floral structures in this year's Corunna backdoor sun orchids (Thelymitra sp. - T.peniculata and/or T. pauciflora). Almost all plants set seed (prob self-pollinated) so should be another good showing next spring! #orchids #ozplants

Cymbidium sauve (Grass-leaf Cymbidium / snake orchid) at Corunna, NSW. Flowering was a little reduced this year with very little spring rainfall at Corunna but the few plants still out enjoyed some rare moisture from an afternoon storm passing thru today #orchids #ozplants

Best patch of hyacinth orchids I've seen out so far this year at Corunna - Dipodium punctatum (purple hyacinth orchids). Starting to see a few more plants out around the local district - hopefully today's first real rain since winter will help them along! #orchids #ozplants

Grevillea hilliana (white yiel yiel) flowering well in the garden. A fair bit south of its natural range here at Corunna, NSW but has done well grafted onto G. robusta. Flowers open from yellow/green buds to impressive cylindrical clusters of white flowers #grevilleas #ozplants

Last purple donkey orchids (Diuris punctata) this yr in Croajingolong NP, VIC (mid-Nov). Good to see increased no.s of these beautiful orchids at this location in a year when spring rainfall was fairly low and many other orchids were hard to find #ozplants #orchids #inthefield

Kicking off the winter orchid season (a little late this year!) with a quick scout around Genoa/Gipsy Point, VIC. Still several small patches of Pterostylis concinna (Trim Greenhood) out alongside 3 other greenhood species in early August #orchids #inthefield #ozplants #winter

Blunt greenhood (Pterostylis curta), Gipsy Point VIC in late July. Large no.s can be seen in spring - just a few early flowers out on this visit. Distinctive characteristic of this widespread sp. is the twisted labellum apex (twists to the left - viewed from the front) #orchids

First Pterostylis pedunculata (Maroonhood) flowering near Gipsy Point, VIC at the end of July. Very common orchid in this area - large colonies can be seen out later in spring. Grows here alongside several other greenhood sp. (P. curta & P. nutans) #inthefield #orchids #ozplants

Winter orchids near Gipsy Point, VIC early Aug. Pterostylis curta (blunt greenhood), Acianthus pusillus (small mosquito orchid), Pterostylis concinna (trim greenhood) & Pterostylis nutans (nodding greenhood). Also maroonhoods + helmet orchids (finished) at this location #orchids

Pterostylis nutans (nodding greenhood) near Genoa, VIC. Very common winter-flowering orchid at this location (and SE AUS in general) with large colonies often seen in from June though to as late as mid-Nov at this location. #orchids #greenhoods #ozplants #winter #inthefield

Maroonhoods (Pterostylis pedunculata) near Central Tilba, NSW. Very common terrestrial orchid in SE NSW but haven't seen them at this exact location before (although they're out on private property so haven't really looked here in the past!) #orchids #winter #ozplants #inthefield

Nodding greenhoods (Pterostylis nutans) emerging in late-winter near Mallacoota, VIC. Very commonly seen in E. Gippsland with large colonies flowering over several months in good seasons. Also found in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, TAS + ACT. #orchids #ozplants #winter #inthefield

'Pink Champagne' is the first Epimedium out in the Tilba Tilba garden this yr with the delicate buds opening in late-winter. Epimediums are one of the #perennials that get the most love when featured on the nursery's socials - probably because they're not that well know locally.

Pterostylis pedunculata (Maroonhood) with visitor near Central Tilba NSW. Fungus gnats are usually listed as the pollinator of this widespread orchid but this looks more like a male non-biting midge (Chironomidae) to me - so maybe just a visitor rather than pollinator? #orchids
