There were many unusual spots in this week’s report; one being a mole. Only 91 mole reports have been received by the Road Lab, totalling 0.088% of all incidents, making them one of our rarest mammals. #Roadkill

The only unusual spot in this week’s #roadkillreport was a singular tawny owl. Tawny owl reports contribute only 0.46% of total incident numbers, and yet are still the second most common owl species reported. #Citsci #Owls

Trend data from volunteer reports suggests that, with June nearing to a close, several species will be more commonly reported as roadkill. Of particular note, wood pigeon incidents seem to be more affected, sharply rising in multiple datasets from past years.

A singular toad was reported in this week’s #roadkillreport. Toads are fairly common to the Road Lab in terms of reported amphibia, but are rare when compared to mammals and birds. All toad reports only contributed 0.72% to the total number of reports.

Two herring gull reports were highlighted as unusual in the #roadkillreport. Herring gull reports are fairly uncommon to the Road Lab, taking up only 0.49% of all reports, and are about a third of all gull reports.

The first of this week’s unusual spots is the red deer. Only 0.15% of the database, red deer reports are the third rarest deer species reported, after sika and Chinese-water deer. Despite this, the red deer reported was the most common of this week’s unusual spots. #Deer
