As the NCAA confirmed wrt Xavier Lucas, there’s no rule preventing Jake from transferring to a new school outside the portal and playing immediately. The issue is whether there is tampering by the new school, which, in Jake’s case, will certainly not. Terrible reporting here too

Opting in to the House settlement and committing to paying athletes up to $20.5 million a year probably doesn’t help the situation over at USC. Hope they can recover from this without too many more faculty and staff losing their jobs.

Yikes. We’ve seen this in other sports (e.g., the entire Baylor mbb team entering the portal). I suspect these players are chasing championships though and not NIL dollars.

The judge in Reese Brantmeier’s lawsuit against the NCAA over its prize money rules indicated she will grant class certification. While Reese could have proceeded individually, pursuing a class action places significant pressure and damages exposure on the NCAA. It’s not a sign

Here’s a great read discussing revenue-sharing in the context of college tennis. Some interesting data points, including surveys that say only 18% of tennis programs will share toward tennis, and great quotes from ITA head Dan Mullins.

I was in a shop in Cooperstown selling sports collectibles. They had everything—autographed cards, game worn jerseys, signed bats, you name it. And then something special caught my eye…Shooter McGavin

Many people have reached out about what the college sports executive order means. Ross succinctly explains: it probably means nothing in the short term. It doesn’t/can’t create laws. It’s mostly just emblematic of an effort to enshrine a model that illegally caps athlete pay.

For you soccer players about to embark on your collegiate career, here are some great words of advice from one of the best coaches out there. Applicable to athletes in all sports really.

Great read by Dan on how Trump’s EO is being used as a sword in “the first major Title IX college sports lawsuit to be filed in the wake of the House settlement’s approval, and a harbinger of what some lawyers believe will be many more such cases.”

The judge in Reese Brantmeier’s lawsuit challenging the NCAA’s prize money rules has officially been certified as a class action. Sam provides the class definitions in his comments below.

A good look at how DI schools that didn’t opt into the House settlement terms now have no real way to bind recruits to their school, since letters of intent are no more. As a result, some of these schools aren’t spending time on high school recruiting until the spring.

Good story on why college tennis is cutting more often than many other college programs, especially at the mid-major level. I didn't realize that many programs are renting courts, rather than owning their own facilities. What USC is doing here CAN work: apnews.com/article/ncaa-t…
