Worth noting that the PL says that the the Forest case was wrongly decided.

It will, presumably, make these points to the Appeal Board.

Less clear is whether it will argue for an increased sanction against Forest.

The timing of this, the power stance, everything about it, feels wrong.

The forthcoming Appeal Boards should factor in the fact that cases are being over-prosecuted as part of transparent but doomed attempt to fight off regulation.

Enough.

A lot can happen in a week…

🗓️1 April: the PL asks an Independent Commission to drop Everton into the relegation zone

🗓️ 8 April: the Commission rejects much of the PL’s case as ‘unwarranted, overstated or both’.

If the Premier League’s aim is to push those who break the profit and sustainability rules into a cycle of sanctions which mean that they are no longer sustainable, in order to deter others and thereby achieve some ‘greater good’, then it ought to come out and say so.

Probably best illustrated here, with this acceptance that the Commission is trying to ensure a fair competition and adjusting its approach accordingly.

The deferral of part of the PL’s case against EFC, probably to next season, underscores the reality that the PL table, and the competition itself, is being decided by lawyers.

The PL has created this mess, and surely knows it, but it has the blinkers tightly on.

Part of the PL’s case against EFC has been deferred, likely to next season, as it couldn’t realistically be resolved this season.

Arbitrary outcomes are the only guarantee of this woefully inadequate system.
