The 1915 AAUP statement on academic freedom sets out very good principles for teaching controversial issues. Unfortunately, there are now entire academic fields whose faculty are dedicated to violating all of them, not just as a matter of course, but as a badge of honor.

Current AI models are bad about saying "I don't know" or "this is an edge case and I don't know how to solve this problem right now". They're getting more stubborn about this, if anything. They need an "I've done all I can do" heuristic. Very easy to run around in circles.

Garry and I pushed in this video to stop AB 500 and AB 1217. As of today, both bills are now dead. The people are awake, and the tides are turning. Our elected leaders destroying K-12 education will no longer be tolerated.

“outcomes @ public & nonprofit colleges are not regulated like those of for-profit colleges. Lifetime ROI for bachelor’s degrees at for-profit University of Phoenix range from > $2 million (nursing), > $1 million (computer science) to $48,084 (behavioral science)”

“Professional training should be set in the context of broad learning. The AI revolution means that the niche workplace skills needed one year might be outmoded the next. A general education that includes the humanities will give students skills with greater longevity.”

"Unless we lose ourselves in service to others, there is little purpose to our own lives. Those who live only for themselves eventually shrivel up and … lose their lives, while those who lose themselves in service to others grow and flourish—and in effect save their lives.”

Barely half of 3-8 graders in NC can read at grade level. More than 40% can't perform math at grade level. NC spends more than $13,200 per student, up 34% in just five years. Are these results acceptable? #ncpol #nced wral.com/story/nc-schoo…

Why are we spending more than almost any country in the world only to fall behind in math and reading? House Committee on Education & Workforce believes America’s education system should lead the world - and that starts with getting back to basics and putting students first.
