The 1915 AAUP statement on academic freedom sets out very good principles for teaching controversial issues. Unfortunately, there are now entire academic fields whose faculty are dedicated to violating all of them, not just as a matter of course, but as a badge of honor.

Current AI models are bad about saying "I don't know" or "this is an edge case and I don't know how to solve this problem right now". They're getting more stubborn about this, if anything. They need an "I've done all I can do" heuristic. Very easy to run around in circles.
