No "Jazz" today, as Musiq3 is hosting a Christmas Special. But, in case we do not spend our whole budget on Christmas gifts for our little ones, let's take a look at this charity concert for less fortunate children with kidney disease, scheduled next month?

#todayinjazz, as part of the Quincy Jones (1933-2024) retrospective, his arranging and producing work for the album "Shirley Horn with Horns", in 1963. She had some reservations, but it was still a wonderful opportunity for a young artist still largely unknown at the time.

Last monday in "Jazz" we discovered the first single from "Ianchelevici", an album by Flygmaskin inspired by the sculptor of the same name. That show is available on Auvio.

Yesterday was a day off for "Jazz", with a "New Year" evening proposed by Musiq3, but we're back at it today (happy new year, btw) with a.o. an album by the Coltrane fan saxophonist Johannes Mueller.

After Shakti, and before Remember Shakti, Zakir Hussain (1951-2024) seldom made recorded music with John McLaughlin. One of these rare occasions was the closing track of a return album by the Mahavishnu Orchestra in 1984, proposed #todayinjazz.

Tonight, the Roy Haynes retrospective takes us back to a pianoless quartet date in 1961, the third album by Steve Lacy, playing "Criss Cross", a tune by his main influence at the time - and perhaps forever - Thelonious Monk.

Despite the nod on the sleeve, the music has nothing to do with Sgt Pepper. If you want something out of London that stays quite close to Jazz rather than... anything else, though other musics are alluded to, Mark Kavuma's "Magnum Opus" is a sensible choice. #todayinjazz.

The BJO is about to release an album featuring Naima Joris. Their first single #todayinjazz, a cover of "Some Other Time". Besides a song by Abbey Lincoln, that will be the only standard on the EP, the other pieces belonging to the pop world: Nick Drake, Barbara, Stromae...

The link between those two utterly different sessions is unfortunately lost since last Christmas eve: it was the drummer Anthony Pinciotti, dead at only 49. We're starting "Jazz" today to the sound of this unanimously appreciated musician and human being.

MTB is a more mainstream band, though not by any means corny nor retro, designed to include guitarist Peter Bernstein with his pals Brad Mehldau and Mark Turner into a top-notch quintet. The title track "Solid Jackson" (does anybody still use that expression?) #todayinjazz.
