I believe we should prioritise investing in high-quality palliative care for all; rebuilding the NHS; ending the injustices faced by disabled people & eradicating poverty. Today I will be voting against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. Full statement below:

Today, I spoke on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. I am concerned by the very real threat of people being coerced - either by an abuser or by societal expectations - into ending their own lives. (1/3)

I have never so dramatically changed my position on anything as much as I have on assisted dying, to the point that I now believe it is a sign of barbarism to legalise it; the extreme end point of the evil ideology of austerity

It looks like well over 100 MPs who wanted to speak in this debate have not been able to do so. The Private Members Bill process is not well suited to a bill of this complexity.

I voted against the assisted dying bill, not out of a lack of compassion but because I fear that the law will widen in scope. If that happens, the right to die may become the obligation to die.

Today I voted against the Assisted Dying Bill with hundreds of other colleagues from, but I was unable to make the speech that I had hoped to (here in two sections). As such I am sharing it here so that my constituents can understand more about my concerns with this Bill. (1/3)

Celebrations by pro-suicide cheerleaders makes me feel unwell. Can’t stop thinking about the frail & vulnerable I looked after in my oncology junior doctor placement. Or the anorexic pts on psych ward. Or alcoholic pts on the liver unit. This will go badly wrong for them. 😔

Really disappointed to see such biased reporting by Closer Magazine UK magazine... where's the "opposed" story to counter this? And wheelchair "bound" - no wonder people want to kill themselves. The law doesn't need to change, care and support does. Assistance to live, not to die.

It might seem unimportant, but please don’t tell people who need assistance to travel by train that you’re glad they booked because you’re so busy today. It’s my legal right not to book and it’s a design choice to make me need a ramp, and staff to get on. #DisabledByTheRailway

To all the Motability moaners, this little fact from Transport for All that only 2% of train stations in the UK are step free to the train goes some way to explain Motability. Driving or being driven is the only choice for too many disabled people.

Yesterday, Mr. Mohamed was found guilty after a trial at Birmingham Magistrates Court for refusing to take me and my guide dog Ava at Villa Park Stadium. He was fined a total of £1,232. The message is clear - the days of being able to discriminate like this are over. 1/5
