Here’s what’s so frustrating to me about this whole debate: this ad is great. “He Gets Us” was also great. Why do we have to pit them against each other? Why not be happy about both? I swear, polarization poisons everything.

But they all cried out together, "Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas"-- a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city. -Luke 23:18-19

Seven doctrines for ruling the world? Pretty sure it’s just one: The devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” -Matthew 4:8-9

Ironically, I think CatGirl understands Tolkien’s message better than many of his fans. Her rejection of it is tragic, but tbh I’d rather engage this kind of honest paganism than hypocritical evangelicalism that cheers Frodo while simultaneously grabbing for the ring of power.

I truly believe that Jesus on the Emmaus Road was him playing a prank on his two friends. Keeping them from recognizing him, playing along with their ignorance, pretending to not stay for dinner, disappearing… everything about the story screams “Boo! Gotcha!”
