"For just across the Lune's broad stream, A man once lived could solve a dream, Or by the stars could fortunes tell; Circumvent a witch; love philters sell" - Cumbrian rhyme recalling 17thC conjurer Dr Fairer who lived by the River Lune

There are still places available for my guided walk this Saturday (Sept 7) along the Eskdale postal path #Cumbria. And the weather promises to be good! Details at ravenglassrailwaymuseum.co.uk/events/

When will Ofcom finally admit there's no such thing as first or second class? Almost all letters take 2 to 3 days to arrive. BBC News - Second class letter deliveries could be cut from Saturdays bbc.co.uk/news/articles/โ€ฆ

The postbox in Bowland Bridge, Cumbria. This village was on the route of 19thC postman Tommy 'the knock' Eccles. He walked 20 miles each day. "More certain than many of the village clocks, is Tommy the Postman's knock" - local saying. #PostboxSaturday

I love this story - notwithstanding the horror of finding yourself taken to Carlisle against your will. And lovely that she wasn't charged for the enforced trip. #Cumbria #Carlisle

It's #adoorableThursday so here is the door to one of the few surviving Postman's Huts in the UK. This one is near Presteigne on the Welsh/English border (it is just in England). Rural postman used to rest in such huts on their long daily treks (sometimes over 20 miles a day).

I felt sure no one would turn up this morning in the pouring rain for my guided walk along Eskdale postal path #Cumbria, and I could go back home to dry out. But all six duly turned up, keen to get walking whatever the weather. Then 2 more turned up! What heroes! RavenglassRailMuseum

Me wondering if the grumpy old man whose family casually mentioned is a retired train driver might turn out to be the hero who saves the day. #Nightsleeper

I am now officially famous! I was sat sitting (as Terry Wogan used to say) in Threlkeld cafe when a gentleman recognised me and came to say how he had enjoyed one of my talks. I'll hang around a bit longer in case anyone wants my autograph ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks RFJ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ !

It's great to travel around the country - not least because I can call in to see many of the UK's independent bookshops. Today, I visited The Book Case at Hebden Bridge. It was busy with smiling customers, full of quality books and great customer service. The Book Case
