Important discussions at this year's #IPIWoCo with IPI - The Global Network for Independent Media on leveraging technology for healthy information spaces: We have to address media dependencies on big tech and ensure privileges to facilitate access to public interest media.

I am alarmed by reports that Ignacio Rosaslanda Ignacio Rosaslanda was violently harassed by police in #Germany. I trust the authorities will swiftly investigate the incident & hold those responsible to account. Law enforcement officers should protect media workers, not attack them.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Christophe Deloire RSF. His relentless advocacy for media freedom, pluralism & democracy worldwide will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends & colleagues.

Many of the concerns I raised today directly correlate to technological disruptions, be it media sustainability, anti-media sentiments, online violence against women journalists or disinformation. Novel challenges to #MediaFreedom require collective & innovative solutions.

Concerned about the arrest of BLAST, Le souffle de l'info journalist, who was reporting on a protest & the pressure exerted by authorities on her to reveal her sources. It is a journalists’ right & professional responsibility to protect their sources as a vital precondition for #MediaFreedom.

Great to see access to reliable info & journalists' safety in the draft #GlobalDigitalCompact. Media freedom is key for democracy, development & peace. Public interest information should be recognized as public good & media as key actor for a human rights-centric digital future.
