Canadian photographer Francois Brunell searches and photographs similar people, but who are not related to each other. He has currently photographed about 200 doppelgangers!

#China changes Fight Club film ending so the authorities win. I wonder if people in the CCP watched the movie and started doubting what side they’re on bbc.co.uk/news/entertain…

Hey, world, this war is not about Ukraine. It's about all of you. Let me – as a tech editor at Forbes Ukraine – explain it to you in the most direct way, by naming products and technologies with Ukrainian roots. Also asking for RT

Incredible to see what AI can do. Does this count as AI models exhibiting creativity? Even though these are cherry picked examples, the fact that it can combine such disparate styles and objects into coherent images makes it appear to have a true understanding of the prompts

Lecun (Yann LeCun)’s 2022 paper on Autonomous Machine Intelligence rehashes but doesn’t cite essential work of 1990-2015. We’ve already published his “main original contributions:” learning subgoals, predictable abstract representations, multiple time scales…people.idsia.ch/~juergen/lecun…

the 'how far do people travel to work?' maps are always quite interesting too - darker reds = higher % travel further to work, so e.g. note the London commuter belt, travel corridors etc (Table TS058 Distance travelled to work)

Massively under-reported science story because there's so much going on right now but...it turns out that we might have figured out what's causing this very scary spike. Quick thread, on how WE'VE BEEN ACCIDENTALLY GEOENGINEERING FOR DECADES...but then we stopped:

This is an incredible story of unintended consequences. It starts in 1993, when the generic for the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac was approved in India. The price fell, the quantity sold increased, and for the first time, farmers began using it for their cows.
