A return trip to Garbh Choire Mòr today with a film crew to record the last of the snow. Pretty mixed weather, but it cleared when it mattered. The crew agreed that the entry and exit gully was quite lively.

A pretty grizzly site this afternoon on the Braeriach plateau. The carcas (or what remains of it) of a reindeer. Just in case Cairngorm Reindeer cannot account for one of their beasts.

Passed this today. If you’re ever walked around a Scottish village and wondered what the initials are on the top of the lintels of old houses, they’re those of a married couple and the year they were wed. So, in 1781 AM married IN and moved into this house.

I’ve never read a more entertaining account on the horrors of war than this memoir. The guy is off his trolley. And a general, no less.

Of the two remaining snow patches in Scotland, Ian Boit visited the Sphinx yesterday at 7am, finding it just a few metres across. Will it survive past the weekend? facebook.com/groups/snowpat…

Finally, with “the vanishing ice” being one of my favourite reads of the year to date, I felt compelled to make a detour to gaze down into Garbh Choire Mòr and was excited to discover “the sphinx” is still intact although I’m guessing it won’t last for long. Iain Cameron
