Out checking on the cows and calves this morning before the torrential rain set in... they don't seem the least bit bothered and are happy with their bite to eat! I on the other hand am taking shelter in the caravan with the woodburner on drinking tea and baking bread!

A sign of spring. The snowdrops were out in the orchard today! We have also noticed the birds starting to sing and the days are feeling longer - despite all the rain we have had in the past 48 hours. Woohoo!

Checking on the fell cattle this morning. All super chilled and happy now that the snow has melted. Can you tell I enjoyed being up there too?!

This is Jon Snow. (Yes we have a Sansa, Arya and Ygritte too! 😂) Jon has lived out on high rough ground his whole life, never had any hard feed, hay or silage. We think he looks pretty good.

Now then. I thought wi' restrictions easing on Monday, it might be nice to give them that need it a reminder of how to look after our lovely British countryside! Treat the land, and the people that live and make a living on it, wit respect it deserves 💚🇬🇧

I love this sycamore tree. It stands in our farmyard and grows out the back of the old drop toilet (the small stone building you can see beneath it). Safe to say it has been well fertilised!! Today is is buzzing. Literally. It supports so much life. The hum is incredible.

Morning rounds on the farm checking the cattle with my little helper. 😉 Snow upon the tops of the fells. Crisp ground. Blue skies. Swallows overhead. Curlews calling in the valley. What a fabulous start to the day.

The cattle didn't hesitate to follow David across. A friend asked how we get them to follow us rather than pushing. Simple - reward everytime they follow, never pressurise. Their reward today - fresh spring grass! I just love how they hold their tails up so they don't get wet!

It’s time for a break. Social media has played an important role in developing The Horned Beef Company. Thank you to everyone that has contributed and supported us. However, we are keen to remember what life is like without it so we’re taking a break. Bye for now.
