Born in Bastrop County on this day in 1906, Richard Overton enlisted into the U.S. military in 1940 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Overton died on December 27, 2018 at the age of 112. Before his passing, he was America’s oldest living man and World War II veteran.

The industrial history of our Landmark Inn State Historic Site in Castroville began in 1854 when John Vance sold the lower portion of his property along the Medina River to be constructed into a dam, gristmill, and cotton gin. Learn more: ow.ly/SLVq50yC1k6
