I had the thrill of doing an opener for 6000+ at a leadership conference in Chicago. Listen, I don’t take for granted that God has allowed me to make a living as an artist in a plethora of ways. 🙏🏽

“Younger” artists, it’s on you to go to the people who came before you & ask the questions & listen to the stories. “Older” artists, it’s on you to be accessible & willing to share those stories (the legacy) with the younger artists when invited to do so.

Well, here’s news. “The Boy Who Kissed the Sky” (with lyrics co-written & music co-composed by yours truly) is officially distributed. The 20-year-old-something me is pretty amped about my name being on the cover of a script in NY’s Drama Book Shop . 🙏🏽

Grateful to have received a Suzi Bass Award for my music direction for the Alliance Theatre production of “The Boy Who Kissed the Sky.” The show also won “Best TYA Production.” Shout out to Idris Goodwin, Divinity Roxx, & rockstar the cast/crew. Now, onward. 🙏🏽

A shot from my gig with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. No, I was not the conductor as the screen says (oops!). A mom, celebrating her son’s 7th birthday, walked up to me afterwards & said how special it was to see people on stage (myself & the actual conductor) who “look like” them.

Dreamt that I was composing a tune last night. I woke up & was able to chart the melody. This happened a lot when I was writing “Starving Artist.” I’m receiving it as a sign that the songwriting floodgates are opening again for me. To my fellow songwriters, write on friends.

A few years ago I scored the Alliance Theatre animated short “Curious Cardinal.” I’m amped to have that work live on in the form of a dance-only retelling of the story for toddlers, set to my compositions. Bring a little one you know…or just yourself. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I just scheduled the annual physical that I’d been talking about scheduling for my past two birthdays. Men, do it. Don’t assume. Don’t play tough. Your loved ones need you more than you need your machismo.

Years ago, when I wrote the music for this show, it was my 1st professional theatre composing job (thank you Chris Moses🙏🏽). This is its 2nd production since the Alliance Theatre world premiere. Long live Beautiful Blackbird & the work of the treasure that was/is Ashley Bryan.

This one’s been in the works for about 3 years. Amped to be composer for a Hip-Hop musical premiering in my hometown about one of our hometown treasures. 10/22 is open to the public. Visit the theatre’s website for tix. (FYI: the full production runs next June) ✊🏽
