#COVID19 - Yikes. Really worrisome. I'm a little surprised deaths haven't gone up. Hopefully, they don't but that seems very unlikely. Keep an eye on ICU beds as small counties don't have ICU's and patients may need to be transferred for vents. Wear a mask, save a life.

Today reminds us that progress might be slow. It might take decades. But no matter what things might look like today, it’s always possible. Happy Pride month, everybody.

#COVID19 - Highest daily reported case numbers for SC again. Deaths are still quite low. Few explanations for this. 1) COVID Circulating amongst healthier and younger population only, older adults isolating and taking precautions 1/2

2) detecting cases much sooner than earlier in outbreaks in other states and seeing lag in worst cases (second week crash) 3) possible impact of warmer weather/increased sun on virus pathogenicity or human immune response (Vit D?) 2/2

#COVID - Given the high rates of infection amongst younger individuals this likely explains some of this divergence in cases and deaths but I am very worried that we will see a significant uptick in deaths starting 14-15 days after the cases have started to spike in SC.

#COVID - SC infection cases are increasing as well as % positive. The % positive indicates that we are likely missing cases and that increased testing is not why cases are going up.

#COVID - South is going to outpace the Northeast in terms of cases in very short order. Thankfully deaths have not followed suit but if hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID cases it ultimately will impact everyone who needs emergency care.

#COVID19 - SC today had the highest daily new case count at over 1,700 (nytimes chart yesterday). Additionally, SC has a lack of testing making the actual case totals likely much higher (probably ~10x based on recent data from the CDC). Wear a mask, save a life.

#COVID-19 - Things are looking worse in SC. Death counts are starting to rise, hospitalizations are increasing, and case rates keep setting new highs. Additionally, testing is some areas is hard to come by. This is not looking good for my home state. Wear a mask, save a life.

#COVID - My mother-in-law and brother-in-law in SC got tested on Wed and got results today (Monday). How can we trust case numbers if we are week behind with results and testing is hard to get? We need testing that is easier to get.

#COVID19 - It is unwise to put all of our eggs in the vaccine basket. We need to prevent further infections now using public health measures that are working in some of the US and many other countries including mandating masks and social distancing protocols.

Thanks for this helpful perspective and demystifying this for everyone. This highlights that the language we use within the medical community and outside is so important. When I heard/read MIS-C I immediately was mystified and unsure of what was happening with COVID and kids.

With dozens of researchers at Yale, Stanford, Berkeley and IPA and several other organizations, we ran a cluster randomized trial involving almost 350,000 people and 600 villages in Bangladesh to assess the impact of community masking on COVID.
