I found this letter from 2018 that Catherine Connolly co signed on the Assad regime and Syria. Thought it was interesting. #TonightVMTV

Why this may be Keir Starmer's last Labour conference as leader "it’s no wonder Labour politicians are thinking how they keep their seats, how they hold their place in the next Cabinet and how they protect their pensions." My The Scotsman column today. bit.ly/3IK3czc

Where is our judge led Public Inquiry? Shabana Mahmood MP The Birmingham Pub Bombings remains England's longest unsolved mass murder of C20th! If YOU truly believe in equality, then our families have exactly the same right to what other families (quite rightly) have received.

A couple of points to take away from this morning's (mostly) unrevised UK GDP data... 🧵 1️⃣ Q2's growth of 0.3% was still led by government consumption, which contributed 0.3% points. In other words, excluding public spending on goods and services, growth was *zero*.

Rachel is blaming the UK's higher borrowing costs for having to break her pledge & raise taxes again. But the higher borrowing costs are due to the application of a "moron premium" by bond markets to the UK Govt., which is borrowing too much & throttling the economy though

Odd for a chancellor who made so much of importance of OBR and transparency to seem to be contemplating reducing transparency & moving UK from accepted best practice by reducing frequency of forecasts. We’ve had 2 forecasts a year for 50+ years. Missing the underlying issue here.

We need to be tough on innumeracy and the causes of innumeracy which, in this case, appears to be a social sciences degree from Oxford…

Starmer's statement that "public investment does not crowd out private" is a flat denial of 100 years of macroeconomic theory. It should be regarded as just as intellectually unacceptable & ignorant as claiming Tylenol creates autism or vaccines gave King Charles cancer.

I think this Labour member's text sums it up well: "I feel sorry for him, I think he genuinely cares about the country but if this is him stepping up to the fight, we’re going down in round one!"

There will be a lot of praise for this speech. But Keir Starmer has now framed his entire leadership around his capacity to take the fight to, and defeat, Nigel Farage. And next May, when it becomes clear he isn't able to, Labour MPs will draw the inevitable conclusion.

If a student was told ‘we hate the Irish’ it would be the subject of every radio talk show for days. Anglophobia is prevalent and accepted. That needs to change.

This is bollocks... 🙄 Most of the 'green' jobs being 'created' simply divert workers from other jobs that are 'not green', with no net gain. Worse still, the mad rush to 'net zero' means UK energy is more expensive and less secure, costing jobs in the rest of the economy.
