Grief is a normal and appropriate response to loss, for both children and adults. 🦋 For children, as well as for grown-ups, grieving is a natural and essential part of processing the loss of a loved one.

Sometimes, well-meaning words can unintentionally hurt. Let’s reframe our language to better support grieving children. Small changes in how we communicate can make a big difference.

🌟 Day 25 of our 30 Days of Children's Grief Series! 🌟 Grieving can be overwhelming for children, and sometimes, they just need a safe space to process their emotions. That’s where a comfort cave comes in—a cozy, calming retreat they can call their own.

Kids navigating grief may have unique needs. Take a moment to ask them what they'd like to do during the holidays. Whether creating new traditions or embracing familiar ones, involving them in decision-making can bring comfort and a sense of control during this time. 💙✨

Holidays can be hard for grieving kids, as they often miss the presence of their loved one(s). Creating a memory garland is a beautiful way to stay connected! 🎄 Kids can cut out shapes, write or draw their favourite memories, attach string and hang them somewhere special.

This holiday season, help kids feel connected to their loved ones. Encourage them to choose a gift in memory of someone they miss. Then, donate it to a charity or someone in need. It’s a heartfelt way to share love, give back, and keep memories alive during the holidays.

A reminder: 🎄 Celebrating, smiling, or finding joy in the litle moments is okay. Engaging in the holidays doesn’t mean you’re betraying your loved one. Grief and holiday cheer can exist side by side. Honour your emotions, and give yourself permission to feel both.

The Stocking Stuffer is a beautiful way for kids to honour and remember their loved one. Each year, write down memories, funny stories, or special moments from the past year and tuck them into the stocking. Choose a day with your family to sit together, read the memories aloud.
