Back in hospital. Weekends are the worst time, hopelessly understaffed.

Ten years ago, and my proudest moment in writing books. I was shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book award for 32 Programmes and Liz and I were flown over from America and put up in a flash hotel. I didn't win but genuinely didn't care. Just loved having my moment of glory.

Classic non-league. Marine v Dunston yesterday, the floodlights went out. One of the Dunston midfielders is an electrician. He fixed the problem and the game continued.

So there I was, minding my own business when I heard a knock on the door followed by Liz announcing I had a visitor. Turned out that my childhood best friend, who I've known for 52 years, had decided to fly over from Florida to see me. A lovely surprise.

It was tough and emotional saying goodbye to my visitor from America (and lifelong best friend) yesterday, with both of us knowing it would probably be the last time we'd see eachother. Tears were shed.

Back in hospital. As usual came in for a routine visit and ended up having to have an urgent operation tomorrow with another 3 or 4 days here. Getting really fed up with this but feeling sorry for Liz having to put up with my constant moaning, so thought I'd moan to you instead
