When I think of Rubens Barrichello, who turns 53 today, I tend to remember his 9 #F1 GP wins for Ferrari & his 2 for Brawn. But perhaps the prettiest F1 car he ever raced in his 322-GP career was the gold Jordan 196 of ’96. Have a great birthday, Rubinho!

#MonacoGP win for Patrese (Brabham) #OnThisDay in ’82, a race in which 4 potential victors shunted or ran out of fuel in the last laps, including Prost (Renault), here leading Patrese, Pironi (Ferrari) & de Cesaris (Alfa), who nearly took what would have been his only #F1 GP win.

It’s not often you see pics of Jackie Stewart wide & sideways - as he is here, at Massenet, Monaco, #OnThisDay in ’71 - but he still won the race, from pole, with fastest lap, leading all the way.

#HappyBirthday Lamberto Leoni, 72. A winner in #F2 (Misano ’77) & a podiumer in #F3000 (Pau & Österreichring ’85), he struggled in #F1, entering 5 GPs in ’77 & ’78, DNQ-ing in 3 & DNS-ing in one. He then became a powerboat racer. Pic: Leoni in a March 743 #F3 car in ’74.

#HappyBirthday Ivan Capelli, 62. He was ’84 #EuroF3 champ & ’86 #F3000 champ; he drove 93 #F1 GPs (’85-93) for Tyrrell, AGS, Leyton House, Ferrari & Jordan; he bagged 3 F1 GP podiums; but he never won an F1 GP, for he was at Ferrari during the Scuderia’s ’92 nadir (pic).

The #MonacoGP has been run #OnThisDay 3 times - in 1998, 2009 & 2015, won by Mika Häkkinen (McLaren), Jenson Button (Brawn) & Nico Rosberg (Merc). Pic: Häkkinen recorded a grand chelem in ’98, taking pole position, leading every lap of the race, & setting the fastest race lap.

Here’s Alberto Ascari’s winning Ferrari at Monza in ’51, snapped by Louis Klemantaski between the 2 Porfido 90° rights, which were later combined to form one 180° right: Parabolica. The other car is Juan Manuel Fangio’s Alfa. Ascari was killed at Monza #OnThisDay 70 years ago.
