Niaje, Nairobi! I will be in your city this weekend for the book festival. And on its sidelines I will read at SomaNamiBooks. It is an important time for the citizens of this beautiful land. I hope to look at our stories and find commonality.

I will be in Nairobi for the NBO Litfest for a panel with health professionals. Topic is COVID-19 pandemic and how important it is to express science in terms that are accessible to the public. Academic writing versus popular science writing and creative nonfiction genres.

Sudanese-American poet Safia Elhillo (Safia Elhillo) has been named a finalist for the 2026 Neustadt International Prize for Literature by WorldLiteratureToday, honored for her celebrated poetry collection, The January Children. #NeustadtPrize #SafiaElhillo brittlepaper.com/2025/06/sudane…

The African Ink 📖 And my goddaughter, Ekanem , just graduated in astronomy from MIT. She’s soaring !!!!

In one of my conversations with Lọlá Shónẹ́yìn last year, she spoke about how one of her goals for AkeArts&BookFestival is to make rockstars out of African writers, but that African writers had to move like rockstars as well. That was the first time I had the idea to go on tour.

The African Ink 📖 I like that copy of Burning Grass.

She’s here! A dream come true in every way possible. You get to hold TINY THINGS now. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s made this possible: my publishers @bloomsburybooksus @masobebooksng @manilla_press, my agent Alexa Stark — thank you. Here’s to more. 🍷
