>TFW once again hoping people see the light that the Burton Planet of the Apes remake is actually pretty okay.

The first time I watched this there was a blackout on my block the moment the giant flatworm rose out from the ground and it got me.

There was a post the other day about how surprising it is that the current Planet of the Apes series is so good…

And like, not really.

All the new movies do is just consolidate and distill what is already there in the foundation.

It is like a monkey’s paw that Velma finally gets somewhat decent with Season 2 and then we are set back a hundred steps with Greg Berlanti trash.

Not the same bad movie.

A most better if still underwhelming movie.

The Last Stand remains LEAGUES worse than Dark Phoenix.

I would actually watch a sequel to Abigail that adapts the plot of Dracula to its sensibilities.

Like a more horror crime comedy adaptation.

Abigail (2024)

Glad that Radio Silence was able to make this after how crappy their Scream tenure was. They’ve still got it. Although I think the finale is a huge cop-out, it’s a fun vampire flick that definitely riffs on the same cultural vibe of other horror-comedies.

7/10
