Two rather nice first editions by C. S. Lewis.

Secondhand bookshops don't really have "bestseller" lists but if we did I imagine Tolkien would be a permanent fixture. This secondhand box set of paperbacks won't stay in the shop for long I am sure.

My herb garden at the back of the shop is very rough and ready but the Sage in flower puts a smile on my face every day.

We are having a reflective day in the bookshop today.

Always nice to acquire the first edition of a classic. Winnie the Pooh was first published in 1926, he is almost an antique. Stand by for anniversary marketing next year!

Ah, the 1950s... if nothing else, these "figure drawing" books are a piece of cultural history for their recording of changing standards of beauty and physicality.

A customer asked me to look up the tongue-twister "In Hertford, Hereford, and Hampshire, hurricanes hardly ever happen" The AI summary at the top of my search said: "The statement is not intended to be taken as a genuine meteorological observation." Which is odd!

Emily's Book She cut and pressed flowers from 1864-1869 and kept them safe in this book noting the date and place each time. Such a lovely thing, delicate but lovely.

Not known for his poetry, Picasso, but he was cool enough to be published by the hip kids at City Lights in San Francisco.

You don't see these very often any more.

Today was all about the vintage sci-fi, fantasy and horror (and some not so vintage!)... Thirty-five boxes of it in fact!

Today we are travelling three and a half hours in each direction to look at some books... that's seven hours in the van... there had better be a Shakespeare first folio in this house!

One of the saddest things we encounter on a regular basis is the end of a hoarders life. Piles of books (in this case), dreadful living conditions, a life circumscribed by compulsion.

Whilst we were out yesterday looking at shelves full of uninteresting books, my colleagues in the shop acquired a rather nice, if eclectic bunch of items...

So far this morning when asked politely, how are you? One customer replied "Blissful thank you. Very blissful". Another, "Yes, very powerful". !!
