Whilst censuses only measure how people respond to questions on censuses, this is important! "For the first time in Scotland’s Census, the majority of people said they had no religion. In 2022 51.1% of people had no religion, up from 36.7% in 2011." scotlandscensus.gov.uk/2022-results/s…

Star Trek did such a great job predicting various technological innovations, but it has just struck me that the writers did not predict the proliferation of CCTV. So many episodes are detective-style and there very, very rarely seems to be any CCTV footage

Keir Starmer is about as inspirational as an omelette that's been sitting on a hotel buffet hotplate that little bit too long. But would still be one step closer to "good" than the Conservatives

Insistence on freedom of religion can look ridiculous when it is combined with the denial of other types of freedom. Judith Butler nicely points that out in one sentence, also noting (outside the image) that contradiction does not matter for (what she calls) anti-gender movement.

Here's a question for you... Does anyone out there actually like shopping in WHSmith, or is it just something you have to do out of necessity? If you do enjoy it, could you explain to me why?

I'll be appearing on Dr Angela Puca's YouTube livestream this Sunday evening at 5pm UK time talking lots of 'non-religious' stuff. Feel free to tune in, like, subscribe, ask questions... or check it out after the fact :-) youtube.com/live/pgOGhjnt2…

I presume we have Minecraft to thank for "build" and "make" becoming nouns, in the sense of "look at my latest build/make"? Language evolves, and I'm sure one day I shall use these words in this way, but for now... it irrationally irks me🤣

Fascinating keynote session with so much to think about, particularly how those currently involved in education can anticipate the future of AI and how it will look in the RE classroom. Great conversation amongst our panel members as well as in the zoom chat! #RExChange24

An excellent session yesterday morning, chatting through a short paper - "What does AI mean for knowledge in the religion and worldviews classroom? A critical RS perspective" - and then engaging in a stimulating roundtable discussion. Thanks to all! OU

Just thinking... I hadn't really heard much about Elon Musk until he bought this platform and did his thing. And now he's got quite an influential position in US politics. Well played, Musky, well played. 🤮

I've been beating myself up about being a crap academic over the last five years... But let's face it, academia is not very compatible with family life and non-work interests. Many successful academics project an image of having little else going on. Of course, I may be wrong.

Good to see that I still occasionally do something. Here's a piece published on the OU Religious Studies blog, based on my recent presentation at Culham St Gabriel’s RExChange
