Potential (hopeful!) Megachile rugifrons collected in July from Saunders Co., Nebraska... literature is showing extremely limited (and by that I mean 2, last one being 2011...) records here in Nebraska. Second opinion before I get too excited??

Here in Oregon, insects are not considered wildlife. Think about that for a sec. ~90% of animal life are not considered wildlife. Glad this story is in print! We can do something about this. Time to act!

Spring has finally sprung here in Nebraska with back to back 90* days, and I was finally able to get out and look for some bees. Colletes and some Ceratina (nest pictured) were among today's finds 🥰

Thank you Lauritzen Gardens for inviting me to come speak about solitary bee nesting! We had a great workshop and participants loved making their own nests to take home!

One of my overwintered zebra swallowtails emerged today! A very lovely work distraction. Unfortunately, his timing is a little off and it is slightly too early for him outside.

Researchers are seeking your help studying ground-nesting bees. To participate, add your observations to the iNaturalist project with your picture(s) of a ground-nesting bee and its nest entrance, ideally showing a bee entering or exiting the nest.  🐝 gnbee.org

A stroll along the woodland edge on my parents property today in the #PNW. Spotted at least 10 different species of bees, though unable to get photos of most. Snagged a few to key out later. Also found several large Colletes sp. Aggregations and a Bombus flavifrons nest!

Hey #Evol2023, if you missed my talk yesterday be sure to check out beetreeoflife.org — We constructed and made available the largest phylogeny for bees with public and published sequence data. It includes 4,651 species, representing 23% of species and 86% of genera. 1/ 🧵

The hardest part about academia is moving away and leaving great friends and labmates in pursuit of new opportunities... but these A. Virescens cupcakes almost make up for it this time ❤️

I told my parents that a caveat of them moving to OR again was that they had to get the bee plates to support #pollinatorresearch. Now I want bee plates. Hey NY, lets make these happen!

Come work with bugs! Heavy pollinator focus, but opportunities to work with other taxa as related to renewable energy development and conservation. Happy to answer questions, but please apply via email in attachment. *Sharing on behalf of project PI* #entomology #researchposition
