The start date has been confirmed for the public inquiry which will decide the future of #ConghamBridge .
Will this early and rare-surviving example of a modular concrete structure remain buried in National Highways' emergency infill or be exhumed so we can appreciate it again?

Great to see East Sussex Highways engaging positively with the local community over #BarcombeBridge . In developing a repair scheme, the Council intends to maintain the structure's 'historic aesthetics' AND current 20t weight limit.
Are you watching National Highways? That's how you do it.
The HRE Group SAVEBritainsHeritage National Highways SAVE always does write the best and most strongly worded objections. Also isn't scared to follow up with legal challenge. š½š¾ I love a stroppy letter from SAVE, so cheering.

This scheme needs to pass beneath two legacy bridges previously threatened with emergency infilling by National Highways.
Will NH work with the developers to secure licences for the route?
Great to have SAVEBritainsHeritage voicing its objection to the loss of #RudgateBridge to National Highways 'emergency' infill scheme.
We need to respect our railway history and protect these structures so they can be part of a better future.
Time for NH to accept that reality or step away.

In 1847, pioneering railway engineer #JohnCassBirkinshaw opened the fabulous #RudgateBridge .
In 2021, National Highways exploited emergency rights to infill it, reducing liabilities. But NH now needs to secure planning permission.
Please OBJECT. Here's howā¦

We understand that ownership of the much-valued bridge at Barcombe, East Sussex has been transferred to East Sussex Highways.
In 2021, it was the focus of a vigorous community campaign to prevent it being infilled by National Highways.
This move should fully lift any residual threat.

We've just submitted our objection to National Highways' attempt to retain its unnecessary and unlawful 'emergency' infill at #RudgateBridge .

Yup, that pretty much says it.
The consultation deadline for comments on National Highways retrospective planning to retain the infill at #RudgateBridge is tomorrow.
Please make your voice heard, like John did so eloquently.

How do you fell trees by accident?
National Highways was determined to push this scheme through using emergency permitted development rights which left stakeholders unable to scrutinise the plans.
Nothing accidental about that.

A great piece by Construction Index on National Highways' retrospective planning application to retain the infill at #RudgateBridge .
It clearly sets out NH's many failings and misrepresentations regarding this historic structure.
