Speaker Hortman acknowledges she said six years ago big “omnibus” bills should not happen after Republicans did a similar maneuver. She claims the difference is few Democrats knew what was in that bill. She says GOP lawmakers knew most of what is in this year’s 2800-page bill.

DFL House Speaker Melissa Hortman says they did what they had to do to pass their agenda in the House. She says there was ample debate on most of the bills Republicans complained about…and they held exhaustive debates on some of them.

GOP House Minority Leader Lisa Demuth says she’s filed an ethics complaint against DFL House Speaker Melissa Hortman for repeatedly ignoring GOP motions on the floor while pushing legislation through in final minutes.

GOP Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson said he felt “gross” walking off the Senate floor after chaotic end to session. Says DFL trifecta has been a “disaster.” Johnson says Senate President Bobby Joe Champion ignored rules and “steamrolled” the GOP minority.

GOP House Minority Leader Lisa Demuth says chaos erupted when DFL leaders presented a 2,860 page bill including many unrelated items. She says no chance to review and no idea everything it included. That’s the bill in front of her. Demuth says Republicans were “steamrolled.”

UPDATE: House and Senate have adjourned! Senate did NOT pass a cash capital investment bill in time. Clock struck midnight before roll was closed. Chaos to the end.

Civility restored for the moment in the House where they’ve moved on to the rarely controversial rural finance authority bill. Now moved on to a slimmed down all-cash capital investment bill that only requires a simple majority because no borrowing.

Entire House GOP caucus just held news conference at to House Chamber criticizing DFL for violating multiple rules and Democratic process.

Finally some excitement at the Minnesota State Capitol after the Wolves adjourned the Denver Nuggets season sine die! 🎉🏀

If it’s any consolation (and it won’t be), state lawmakers aren’t scoring much more than the Timberwolves. With less than four hours left in session no action on ERA amendment in Senate or on sports betting or bonding bill in either chamber. Uber/Lyft still needs vote in Senate.

I think I overheard a Minnesota State legislator share a similar sentiment today…

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Legalizing sports betting in MN appears to be on legislative life support. DFL Sen Majority Leader Erin Murphy says chances are “fading.” GOP Sen Minority Leader Mark Johnson says he doesn’t know if there’s time with so many bills unfinished.
