It's not impersonations of high-profile accounts that are the problem. It's the person impersonating a minor online celebrity, an obscure government functionary, or perhaps their ex. That's where the harm will be done and no one will notice or care until it's far too late

i think the most unfortunate thing about all of this is that it should’ve been *totally* preventable. given what we’ve seen over the past 48 hours, it’s clear that many people viewed him as rather unsavory and felt psychologically unsafe around him. so, what happened?

being a night owl is definitely a curse -- i *physically* cannot go to bed before 2:30am 😫 (also struggle to sleep in past 9:30am)
