I believe the power and joy of poetry is its ability to project words toward the unsaid, which I suppose can be described as a fleeting thought that seems somehow diminished if it’s named. What is something you enjoy about poetry?

I’m loving what all the fellow authors and poets are saying about Why Trees Stay Outside. What’s your favorite compliment you’ve ever received about your book, fellow authors?

It’s hard for me to say whether it’s books or guitars that give me more joy. I have a large book collection, but I also own six guitars, and I subscribe to the notion that you can never have too many guitars! What do you like to collect?

Do you have any writing habits or a routine? I typically write in my journal first thing in the morning. Occasionally I ponder a writing prompt. I edit when I start to feel drained of new ideas. But everything stops if I feel a poem coming on.

Lately I’ve been quite taken with Joy Harjo’s work. Her poems are both moving and accessible. Are you familiar with Joy Harjo’s writing? If not, I suggest starting with her poetry collection “Weaving Sundown in a Scarlet Light.” buff.ly/3XWYHoC
