There's a story about Dilla wanting to sample a drum break on a Roy Ayers record, I think, but the whole thing had a spoken monologue over it. He broke that thing down to 64th-note microseconds, found 64 tiny shards with no talking, & rebuilt the drums without the monologue

I regularly fight with India artists during the mixing stage because they just don't get it. I'm so tired of it. We engineers aren't here to change your record we are hear to make it pop.

Oh man, the amount of records that people ruin because their “friends” say that it doesn’t sound right is insane. I genuinely feel most of these India guys don’t wanna see their friends succeed.
