Today’s race also incorporates the Southern African regional half marathon championships so we have a better than usual presence of athletes from this part of the world.

Last year’s winner Stephen Mokoka ran a 61:21 and is here to defend his title. Local provincial hopes rest with Melikhaya Frans and Marianio Eesou🇿🇦

Amongst the South Africa’s the form men’s runners are Gladwin Mzazi and marathoner Desmond Mokgobu who are prepping for Cape Town Marathon

On the men’s side, watch out for Joel Mmone,Thabang Mosiako, Precious Mashile and David Manja.

Also back from injury is Elroy Gelant so he will be hoping for a solid run before Cape Town Marathon

On the women’s side we have a strong African presence so locally based Ethiopian and Kenyan runners expected to dominate.

Amongst the SA favorites we are expecting a strong run from Nolene Conrad who will also have an eye on Cape Town Marathon

And they are off - with Elroy Gelant taking an early lead in the 2018 national half marathon champs

A big group of more than 25 men in the front of the race. Early days and still on sub 61 pace.

Men’s pace has slowed with a tactical battle developing at the front. Race being led at 12km by Gladwin Mzazi and containing all the favorites

I’ve had the fortune of cheering on Team Lusapho @LusaphoApril at the TCS New York City Marathon before, and now, I’m looking oh-so-forward to be able to cheer on a South African woman, Gerda Steyn, as part of this year’s stellar starting line! Go Team SA!

Wheels down in Amsterdam with a quick change to catch our daytime flight back to South Africa.
