Seeing a lot of questions about the pay range for the open editorial associate position at DUP. The official range is $17.69 to $27.14 per hour. Most offers will probably be made at the lower end of that range.

It is the policy of a $12.7 billion endowment university to withhold information about salary in its job ads, which tells you just about everything you need to know about the labor politics and working conditions of that institution.

If it hadn't been for the collective agreement won by Duke Faculty Union, I would only have had five years at Duke, not the six I needed to stay on the market to land this job. Everyone needs job security, and, to get it, everyone needs a union.

I've watched Duke increase tuition far beyond inflation while eroding student learning by undermining faculty working conditions. The only real check on its transformation into a $12.7B hedge fund has been Duke Faculty Union. No wonder Duke appears hellbent on destroying the union.

I can echo this from my experience Duke University. IMO the university essentially decided to destroy its top ranked program because of resentment that faculty who were hired on time-limited appointments became renewable via unionization.
