A quick update on the cyber attack York University. The cyber investigation is still ongoing and teams are working on a 24 hr cycle since Friday. So far, no indication that confidential information was compromised. However, we still have to wait for the final assessment. 1/5

Every single one of our 4000+ servers must be inspected to ensure safety. Systems that were restored yesterday night: Moodle, Zoom, on-campus student access to the internet. Office 365 is up. Today, we are concentrating efforts on MyMail/Central Mail, CRM Student email, VPN. 2/5

Priority is on student services. As a result, we should expect work disruptions today, especially with anything relying on VPN. 3/5

To make things worst, the service desk ticketing system and IT phone systems are inaccessible because of the cyber-confinement of our systems This will seriously impede our ability to respond to the community. I can imagine this causing stress to users. I feel for you. 4/5

Allow me a shout out to the sleep deprived IT team. They have been problem solving non-stop since Friday. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes… Courage to all! I hope to see you soon on the other side. 5/5

We are continuing to bring services back online: all Faculty websites, the School of Continuing Studies Moodle, [email protected] and Faculty IT support email, and many back-end services enabling us to move forward. Things are looking up. York University #yorkuniversity

“This creates a difficult balancing act for Zoom, which is trying to both improve the privacy guarantees it can provide while reducing the human impact of the abuse of its product.”

Spending break working on the new digital arts hobby. Internal conflict: you don't need to spend money on a Mac/Adobe. It's a hobby, not your job. Also me: i want Premiere and a Mac! Also also me: NO MACS!

Avg. rent in the city is 2500/month, which is 30K/year. Avg. CUPE Ed worker salary is 39K/year. Remember who to be mad at if schools are closed due to a strike: blame falls squarely on the man denying early childhood educators and custodians the right to basic decent living.
