Did you know that Tavistock Museum is an Area Centre for the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site?! In 2006, the Tamar Valley and Tavistock were jointly named as one of ten areas in Cornwall and West Devon to be awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO!🥳

Our 'Railways in Tavistock' Exhibition gives great insight into a sector of Tavistock's Heritage. The South Devon and Tavistock Railway opened in 1859, linking Plymouth to Tavistock. It was later extended by the Launceston and South Devon Railway to Launceston, Cornwall, in 1865!

Just a reminder about our 'Evacuees in Tavistock' Exhibition. This exhibition was curated based on the Evacuee experience of one of our lovely visitors last year. Ken is a perfect gentleman and willingly shared his and his family's wartime evacuation story with us. #evacuees

✨️FUN FACT FRIDAY!✨️ The 'laterna magica' (Latin for magic lantern) was an early image projector lit by oil lamp to display photographs, paintings and prints on glass. The slides would have been inserted upside down due to the single lens inside inverting the slides.
