As silage season begins, smart decisions at every stage can greatly affect forage quality and farm performance. From timing your cut to planning ahead for the second round, here are four key tips to help you maximise quality and minimise losses this season.

First-cut silage removes a significant amount of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). It’s important to plan ahead for your second cut. Estimate the nutrient offtakes to ensure your second-cut fertiliser requirements are met. 🚜🌱 Read more 👉 bit.ly/3xCWFMu #SilageSeason

Due to rainfall, the Magnum fodder beet crop in West Cork is ready for T2 spray the next dry day. Following a split T1 programme, the crop has 9 bags per acre of 8-5-18+B+S blend at sowing with added Sulphur and boron. After T2 the crop will get 2.5 bags per acre of CCF SuperCan.

Great root mass and nodulation showing on these Spring Beans, which got their first fungicide and trace elements last week. At sowing, the crop received 3 bags of 0-9-18 + Sulphur and Calcium. Calcium and Sulphur are a big help to nodulation and plants nitrogen fixing capacity.
