My debut fiction collection, How to Make Your Mother Cry, will be out on May 1st (earlier if you pre-order). Writing blurbs takes so much time and I'm grateful to the amazing writers who wrote for me. Here's a blurb from Deesha Philyaw WVU Press

Dear April, backyard is an ecosystem of small snakes, scorpions, hummingbirds, squirrels cutting through the prayer flags. Inside, spiders with dead insects. My nook where I have breakfast talking to Ma. My books laptops. Tiny worlds everywhere.
In the end, just light and dust.

At first, it was just second person POV, then some frowned upon the first person POV, and now it's third person present tense.
I believe every story I'll write will have a content warning. Sigh.

“I imagine him swept away by the current, the gray-green water, arms flailing, the stones he collected weighing him down, and hypothermia in ten minutes.” New story in Third Street Review

I’m watching Ripley on Netflix and I’m in love with the locations, the sepia vibes, the beautiful camera work. 🖤

Dear April, we have been switching between AC and heater. I woke up last night in sweat, & then cold, thunderstorms breaking through the area, confused like me. This morning the wind whips like it's about to die, but all we do is shrug & let this go on until we no longer can.

Posting this photo because all that is beautiful doesn’t have to be perfect, the trash bins add that touch here or vice versa-beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

🌸 🌺 in the backyard
Our art should be like these: blooming in their colors, swaying in wind with an unparalleled beauty and simplicity ❤️

Dear April, I want to smell mangoes and run to my childhood, my home with jackfruit trees, my father changing the cover on his precious books, smiling, Oh you are here, and I hug him with all my love, my grief, saying I miss you without a single word.

Dear April, today, I touched my mother's face on a picture where she's holding me as a baby. I don't remember but I was there with her. Memory is a building with a foundation of something unknown to you.
Today, I sat with this poem for long.
