The last year that wild pitches and passed balls have been lower than this season (.34 per game, combined) is 1982. Don't let a shared video of any one passed ball convince you that knee-down catching is some kind of disaster.

It may surprise some to learn that since the onset of one-knee catching passed balls and wild pitches are down and on top of that catchers pop times on throws to second have gotten significantly quicker.
