Unpicking the strands of a musician often seen as the heir to Shostakovich - and perhaps the last truly great composer of the 20th century. The strange, brilliant and sometimes nightmarish world of the Soviet composer Alfred Schnittke: bbc.in/2M2Kcgc

If this week of fab programmes has piqued your interest, come and check out our Schnittke archive at Goldsmiths! x.com/bbcradio3/stat…

#RMAGold2020 kicks off *tomorrow* with a panel on Russian music, featuring Dan Elphick @PaulineFairclo1 Gavin Dixon and ... Me! Going first in a conference feels much less intimidating when you can do it in your PJs. goldsmithsrma2020.org/programme

Amazing stuff from @PaulineFairclo1 this morning, piecing together the ways in which sexual violence was staged and perceived in 1930s productions of Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth in the USSR and US #RMAGold2020

Very cool keynote from Marie Thompson, which drew together all kinds of intriguing strands from the first day of #RMAGold2020 talks, particularly on fears about/desire for disembodied sound. Bring on tomorrow!

#RMAGold2020 Day 2: Highlights included finding about Shostakovich & the French Front Populaire, and equestrian spectacles in the early 19th century (sadly, nothing to do with shortsighted horses).

Thanks to the magic of virtual conferencing, I'm enjoying the roundtable on diversity in music HE, and am about to join the LGBTQ+ discussion, despite the programme clash! #RMAGold2020

Devastating cuts are being proposed at @goldsmithsuol. Please: don't be complicit in this government's attack on arts & humanities - we need them more than ever. #notadonedeal @goldsmithsucu thebritishacademy.ac.uk/news/humanitie…

If your job cuts have made it to the front page of the Sunday Times, I’d suggest Goldsmiths, University of London that you need a new strategy. How about opening the books, sitting down properly with the unions, lobbying government to change a failed system & not sacking some of your best assets?

This is a really misleading article . These weren’t “voluntary departures” - staff were forced to take a deal as they would otherwise have been sacked. Strong resistance from Goldsmiths UCU saved some jobs but this is a warning for the rest of the sector timeshighereducation.com/news/goldsmith…
