We were looking out the window and I said to Jean “Wow, imagine inventing a car.” Jean said nobody invented the car from nothing. So many people had to invent so many things. (Sorry this is a little bit long) 1/

No one person invented a car, she said. Someone had to build a box to carry stuff. Someone realized a rolling round thing made moving heavy things easier. Someone invented a wheel, and an axle. It’s exciting to think about, all over the world

Nothing happens from one person. Someone invented the engine, and the steering wheel. Someone invented a brake. Someone else invented a windshield and a windshield wiper. A tweak of a thing that moves us forward

Some inventions aren’t about being bigger or faster. Someone invented a seatbelt. Someone invented traffic signals. Someone invented car seats to protect the most fragile passengers, so moving forward doesn’t leave people behind

Think of all the people who made a wheel and a seatbelt. Isn’t it weird that one space jerk thinks HE is the one changing the world? Doesn’t he know how many smart people it took for him to be a big dumb showboat? “Born on third base, acting like he’s hit a homer” as Jean says

Nobody does anything great alone. What if the person to invent that next tweak forward can’t afford to go to school, or can’t afford to just sit and think about smart stuff? What if they have a toothache that day, and can’t afford to see a dentist? What if we invested in that?

I can't stress it enough, you HAVE TO create your own joy. So much is at risk when we rely on external sources to feed us joy.

When I was a kid, everyone told me that when I grew up and started seeing taxes being taken out of my check, I would get more conservative but the opposite has happened because I look at my paycheck and I’m like “I pay this much in taxes just for people to be unhoused and unfed?“

Der Deutscher 🇪🇺🇺🇦 @Afelia Halbblutjude 🇺🇸 JewWhoHasItAll The secular part is that you don't include a deity in your celebration, because you aren't a believer. The religious part is WHICH religion's holidays you secularize. Secular Christians don't generally celebrate a secular Diwali or Ramadan, do they. But Christmas and Easter, yes!

IT'S URGENT for Chuck Schumer to get the Senate to increase the NLRB's budget before the GOP takes control of the House. The NLRB budget has been frozen since 2014. It has cut its field staff 37% since 2014. The result—it's slow in probing all the complaints against Sbucks & Amazon

Supporting ⁦Workers United - CMRJB⁩ ⁦SB Workers United Chicago⁩ ⁦Starbucks Workers United ON STRIKE⁩ at Ashland & Irving Park today! Managers were running the store. Regulars refused to cross the picket line. Not 30 secs go by w/o a car honking. Even more customers turned around in solidarity!
