In the new issue of Karavan (no. 4 2024), there is a presentation by this year's Cikada Prize winner Tahir Hamut Izgil and three of his poems in Swedish translation.

Waiting to be Arrested at Night is the author’s personal account of life in unimaginable conditions forced upon them & their fellow Uyghurs by their government. Izgil’s story is set inside Xinjiang, where daily life exists in a world of surveillance repression & constant fear

Many thanks to the Moore Foundation for giving this important award to Waiting to Be Arrested at Nigh. I hope this award will draw more attention to China's long-term oppression of the Uyghurs.

Today I received the statue of Goddess of Democracy from the Human Rights Foundation. It is the trophy for the 2024 Vaclav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent.
