One of several Sedge Warblers seen on my recent visit to WWT Welney in Norfolk WWT Welney

Just as the winter flood water began to recede and breeding waders began nesting, water levels rose dramatically this week on the Welney section of the washes, flooding out many nests including a cluster of avocets.

Another challenging breeding season.

After assisting with the Dawn chorus this morning at Welney, now off to do an Orchid Count at Chettisham meadows.

The sounds of summer finally in the sunshine 😄
Sedge warbler, Cettis's warbler, blackcap, reed warbler and reed bunting singing around car park/visitor centre ponds.
Avocet, grey plover, bar-tailed godwit, black-tailed godwit, common sandpiper, garganey, swallow, house martin.

Out site manager Lizzie Bruce recorded 40 species in 20 minutes from the veranda this morning including Cuckoo, Great White Egrets, black tailed godwits & Avocets.

👀 Look what was spotted today WWT Welney!

Lots of sightings this morning, not just birdlife. Common carpet moth, brimstone, orange-tip and green-veined white butterflies. Cuckoo, bittern, peregrine, bar-tailed godwit, little ringed plover, common sandpiper, great white egrets, great crested grebes.
