Poor quality image but.. This is an actual advert, shown on the actual television, framing dandelions as evil weeds who must be killed. HOW IS THIS STILL A THING?!

This is NOT how pollinators should be welcomed into Spring. Just yesterday morning dandelions, lesser celandines & sow-thistles along this street were supporting solitary bees, bumblebees & hoverflies. Now all mown & lifeless.

I know why this happens but when there's been a dramatic decline in bee numbers over the last weeks it scares me that precious forage is being cut down. Could the mowers just wait another month? When a is declared things must change

It’ll be starting in a few weeks: councils' over-mowing of public grassy areas. Dandelions, celandines, clover - humming with life, lifelines for pollinators - mown down into 'neat & tidy' grass deserts. Who wants their council to this year?

Gutted. Yet another little wildpatch near my home, mown to oblivion. It's like a punch to the stomach every time.

What was a buzzing, humming, lush green meadow is now silent mulch. I'm so, so tired of this messed up relationship with nature. It needs to change.

The relentless over-mowing of green public spaces is underway again. Dandelions, celandines, clover - humming with life, lifelines for pollinators - mown into ‘neat & tidy’ deserts. Who wants their council to and restore nature instead? More bit.ly/3e6t4lt

If we left more verges and parks to grow wild, more people would get to meet our wild orchids, and I think that would be pretty neat, don’t you? 🌸

One of our no mow areas in Tremorfa Park has bloomed into a buttercup meadow 🌼

Just to think that this could be hidden in every over-mowed verge, park or garden 🌱

For many councils, the relentless over-mowing of green areas and verges is in full swing again. Dandelions, celandines, clover, buttercups - humming with life, lifelines for struggling pollinators - mown into 'neat & tidy' grass deserts. Who wants their council to ?

The relentless over-mowing of grassy areas by many councils will be restarting anytime soon. Dandelions, celandines, clover, daisies - humming with life, lifelines for struggling pollinators - turned into 'neat & tidy' deserts. Who wants their council to this year?

Sad the initial response from Reading Council to a sighting of a rare lizard orchid (Himantoglossum hircinum) on a roadside verge was 'We simply are not geared up for protecting plants on areas that are routinely mowed.'

Even our urban soil is a seed bank. There’s not always a need to sow wildflowers, sometimes we can just and see what happens. Wild basil popped up this year along with white campion. Let a little patch of grass grow long and see what pops up!
