I like the immense bias that using ReLU (and ReLU-like functions) as the nonlinearity in the new era of Deep Learning had. Low frequency functions are easily learned, irrespective of network depth and weight magnitude. arxiv.org/abs/2403.02241 has more to say, I recommend it
