20-odd years and I still meet landholders that blow my mind. Today a bloke showed us the wetlands he’s actively managing for painted-snipe, bitterns & native fish, with a side trip to one of the active malleefowl mounds he’s monitoring. All power to private land conservationists.

Any day is a great day when you find a at sunrise on the way to surveys! This is only the second one I’ve seen, and the first that I’ve managed to get a photo of. They’re very elusive and surprisingly hard to re-find in the bush despite their large size.

Can you spot the plastic in these Malleefowl mounds? 🚮❌ Malleefowl are diligent architects, but our plastic rubbish can get into their tidy homes, releasing toxic chemicals as they slowly break down. Please consider your use and disposal of plastic this and every day.

The entrance to Secret Rocks.
This exclosure keeps feral animals out. They have recently released numbats here in an attempt to reintroduce them to the Eyre Peninsula. Malleefowl can be found here too. I went in and walked a bit but it was super hot so I didn't stay too long.
