In 2007, Zoran Janković, the mayor of Ljubljana, was slapped and mobbed by protesters for proposing to make downtown car-free. It’s been so wildly successful that a recent survey of city residents showed that 97% of residents supported keeping the streets car-free.

Every time I visit #Slovenia I feel instantly relaxed and at home. When I'm normally in #Ljubljana in July I tend not to be here after dark - as I am this evening - to appreciate the exquisite way in which the city centre is illuminated. And it's always so clean everywhere!
