I’m trying to imagine the inner workings of the mind of someone who delayed medical attention until their hemoglobin reached 32 g/L. As I always say, your hemoglobin should not be lower than your age. But especially not less than half your age!!

There is no coffee shop, cafeteria or even vending machine in my hospital on the weekends and nothing close by. So rounding on the weekends requires stocking up (to avoid raiding the nurses’ snacks).

Imagine my surprise in finding out:
A) male
B) rural
C) bachelor
Falling right into some very solid stereotypes I have witnessed over my career.
Just saying guys- doctors aren’t scary and we actually can help!

Fevers are a mind f$&@ for cancer patients on chemo. They are instructed to go to ER with any fever ever. This is the furthest from desirable places to go when you are immune suppressed and fatigued. ER doc may or may not treat them like an emergency case so pt feels bad,
