Another exciting conservation update from the field!
 
Over the last 9 weeks, the Fort Worth Zoo has worked diligently to breed the endangered Houston toad to then release eggs and tadpoles into their native range.

PREMATURE BABY GORILLA BORN IN RARE C-SECTION SURGERY

At the Fort Worth Zoo, Jameela, a baby gorilla, was born four to six weeks early via an emergency C-section on January 5 due to Sekani's life-threatening pregnancy complications.

A second Houston toad breeding facility was built behind-the-scenes at the Zoo in 2023, which has allowed us to double the Zoo’s capacity for this species increasing potential for breeding opportunities and larger egg and tadpole numbers.

This is a female red-headed centipede, curling around her newly hatched babies. Centipedes are usually solitary insects, but females are surprisingly great at caring for their eggs and young.
