So disappointing to see women having to access non NHS services to get tailored contraceptive advice.
In sexual health clinics we can provide this advice for you. We are the specialists, please come and see us.

I’m sorry but the coil discourse has kind of lost me a bit, I got 0 pain relief and was in agonising pain for the remainder of the day; most women I know have had similar experiences. I truly haven’t ever known pain like it.

Did you see this they/them on C4? That was me! @pillscandal

I hope youth & others seeking HBC saw the pronoun badge ‘they/them’ & said ‘there’s a nonbinary person talking about contraception on national tv!’ 🏳️‍⚧️

I don't remember numbing gel or anaesthetic for mirena. I do remember being told to take a paracetamol beforehand. Extremely painful for both insertion and removal. Davina McCall, you handled that like a champ, while I crawled around in tears for a few days after

some thoughts about from the first half of the doc - I am concerned about the messaging of contraception ‘masking’ endometriosis symptoms. hormonal contraception is medical management for endometriosis and is likely to slow down progression of the condition!

15 mins in and I’m utterly fuming! Where is the research into long term use of the pill? Doesn’t exist of course 🙄

Microgynon (or equivalents) is used first line across the U.K. because it has a long safety record and the lowest risk of blood clots vs other pills. If it doesn’t suit you - come back! Nearly 2/3 of our women on cocp are happy on it. Davina McCall

So so happy there’s finally been documentary on women’s contraception. I’ve recently come off my pill and had a coil fitted and I had to do most of the research around my problems with my pill myself. The videos online about both the pill and coil are never positive

I had my coil fitted today. I was terrified. The only things I’ve seen have been negative, and everyone has told me it’s the most painful thing they’ve had done. It was absolutely fine. She numbed my cervix. (1) Davina McCall

I’m telling you now the mirena coil insertion HURTS!

To a point where I couldn’t continue and there was a blood bath.

Surely I can’t be the only one who has experienced this?

No need to have a break on your pill 👏. Great to hear this spoken about. Lots of different ways to take - inc continuous. 4 day break likely more robust than 7 if you want a bleed. As well as not bleeding it may improve other cyclical symptoms. Davina McCall

this programme is brilliant in so many ways but having a coil fitted privately with anaesthetic is not what people experience on the NHS

I had a mirena coil fitted today by the nhs and I wasn't offered any numbing gel or injection 4 pain relief. I was sick twice after and spend the pm in bed . V painful and unpleasant.

If only you could get the anaesthetic on the NHS for insertion of the Mirena because unsurprisingly, you don’t. And unsurprisingly, it’s very painful. Sadly Davina McCall this is one thing in your documentary that is out of touch with the majority of women watching
