2023 was a busy year and I did very little sketching despite making it an aim at the start of the year. The highlight for me was a fantastic Wood Warbler that I was able to enjoy over several weeks. Thank you very much for all the likes and shares and a very Happy New Year.

A Willow Warbler in the Yorkshire Dales today starting with a bit of Wood Warbler like song. Ignore the Chaffinch at the end. A Wood Warbler territory was nearby. Ignore the Chaffinch at the end.

Smart, increasingly scarce birds today. Hard to walk away, like twitching lifers, unsure you'll get to see them again. Wood Warbler didn't quite fit in the frame so I've added an unused snap of my first. A bit of shaky Ring Ouzel. Nice to spot a ♀️ too.

My first encounter with a Wood Warbler was 4 short years ago. I tweeted this clip at the time, thinking it would be the first of many. But they are declining & this is the best I will get. It shows that we are losing a stunning little powerhouse of a bird!

This is *incredible*!

A North American Wood Warbler calling around my mics (SW Ireland) @ dawn on the 21st Sep after a strong system crossed the Atlantic.

I still don't know which species it is as many have a similar 'chip' call. I suspect it is Yellow/Tennessee. More to come!

Excellent days birding nethergongcamping with the singing WOOD WARBLER the highlight. If you use your imagination, part of it is in the photo! Also Red Kite and 7 Hobby of note. KOS The British Nature Guide NatureUK BirdGuides

Lucky that my survey this morning took me past Corby on the way back. I dropped into Harry’s Park Wood near Weldon for this very cooperative Wood Warbler

Another classic fall day on Lundy yesterday with over 350 blackcaps being logged. Ringers put in a huge effort with 192 new birds being ringed across the day, mainly blackcap with 160 being ringed also 3 Reed warbler and the obvious highlight of the stunning Wood Warbler.

Along with Yellow-throated, Hooded Warbler was the commonest wood warbler we saw in our Yucatan week. This one would come to us when we sat on our balcony, they don't do this in NS!.

Oh wow! I just bumped into an Elk while searching for Wood Warbler nests. Seen them at a great distance before, but up close they are huge! He’s far taller than I am.

A bit late to the American wood-warbler party this autumn due to issues with my back that have stopped me travelling, but well pleased to be up and running with the wonderful yellow warbler at Hoswick today. A great start to nine days on Shetland!
